Cubism spearheaded the most significant and forward thinking movements of the 20th century.

Born from the union of Cézanne’s theories and the influence of Arts Premiers, cubism shattered the artworld of 1907 and was of considerable influence to many artists.

Initiated by the Telefónica Foundation, the exhibition presents a distinct and original selection of work from French, Spanish and Latin-American artists, between 1907 and 1924.

The paintings of Juan Gris, Natalia Gontcharova, André Lhote hang alongside those of Rafael Barradas, Louis Marcoussis and Albert Gleizes. Portraits, still life and landscapes wander away from reality and break from traditional perspective and form. Some paintings come close to abstraction, others reinterpret everyday objects as in Juan Gris’ « Guitar and Fruitbowl». An exhibition to discover, or rediscover, an influencial section of modern art history through the work of both known and unknown artists, both with quality and worth.
